Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) is a gentle form of energy healing based on the teachings and healing techniques of Japanese Professor Dr. Mikao Usui. In Japanese, Reiki means "universal life energy" which is the fundamental life force energy around and within all living things. Reiki promotes balance among all the body’s systems and heals the body by opening and moving energy through the chakra system. The chakra system consists of seven main energy centers along the body's midline corresponding to specific organs, glands, and body functions.
Reiki uses a loving and gentle energy to encourage relaxation, reduce pain and stress, promote restful sleep, and enhance the body's natural healing ability. Reiki is very relaxing and bestows upon the client a sense of well-being. Some clients even fall asleep during a treatment. Reiki is safe and effective for all ages and levels of health. Reiki is gentle enough for pregnant women, and is a useful tool to help reduce discomfort or complications occurring with pregnancy, childbirth, and lactation.
What can I expect during a Reiki session?
During a Reiki session, the client lies comfortably on a massage table and remains fully clothed; no lotions or oils are used. Soft lighting and soothing music (if desired) create a tranquil, peaceful environment. The client receives energy through the practitioner's hands, with little or no pressure used. The client's body, in its own wisdom, takes in enough energy to dissolve blockages and create balance in the chakra centers. Reiki creates balance on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. Clients often report feeling a warming or tingling experience, and may feel strong emotions during or after the session. Clients should share any sensations or insights with the practitioner to better understand the session.
I’m currently having acupuncture and/or massage. Can I get Reiki, too?
Reiki may be combined with Pregnancy Massage, Therapeutic Massage, Acupuncture, and other treatments offered at Isthmus Acupuncture Center. All treatments are tailored to the specific needs of the client.
